Apollo is one of the most significant deities in Greek mythology, known as the god of archery, music, dance, truth and prophecy, healing and diseases, the Sun and light, poetry, and more. He is the son of Zeus and Leto and the twin brother of Artemis. His birthplace is Mount Cynthus on the island of Delos. Apollo is often depicted as a beardless youth with long hair, symbolizing his eternal youth. He has many love affairs that often end tragically, including those with Daphne, Coronis, and Cassandra. Apollo’s primary cult centers were Delphi and Delos, where he was worshipped as an oracular deity. His role in mythology includes slaying the serpent Python to establish his oracle at Delphi and serving as a protector of young people and a patron of music and arts.
